Sustainable growth in the African manufacturing industry

Africa is seen as the continent of the future. Strong population growth goes hand in hand with economic potential. Ensinger is aware of this development and is seeking to establish a market for semi-finished products and locally produced finished parts in the East African region.

When asked about the conditions for a successful venture, major challenges immediately follow. In response to this, Ensinger is positioning itself with an integrated approach to solutions. Two initiatives with a focus on Kenya (Nairobi) are linked to this:

  • Ensinger Africa Academy - Wilfried & Martha Ensinger Foundation Initiative
  • Ensinger Africa Approach - Ensinger GmbH Initiative

In West and East Africa, there is a manufacturing industry (agriculture and food). The central problem of the OEMs is a lack of locally produced spare parts made of technical plastics for machine repairs. There is hardly any processing industry, especially in the machining sector. This leads to dependency on imports and long delivery times for original parts.

Supply by local processors is not possible due to a lack of semi-finished products, maintenance (machines), production peripherals (tools) and a lack of machining expertise. Tackling these problems step by step, in conjunction with the vocational school system, the unused machines in the schools and the increasing demand for spare parts from the OEMs, there is potential for building local value creation.

Ensinger Africa Academy

Ensinger Africa Approach

Icon for Education

Training

The aim is to promote training in the field of CNC machining (milling & turning) by imparting knowledge that is in demand by industry.

We create educational opportunities and jobs for people in Africa and make a significant contribution to improving living conditions through our social commitment.
Icon for market development

Market development

The aim is to build a bridge between education and industry in order to open up new opportunities for the local production of spare parts using our semi-finished products.
We are pursuing a long-term strategy of 10 years to establish missing links in the value chain and to develop the market step by step.

Icon for industry network

Industry network

The aim is to stimulate the local manufacturing cycle with the help of our industry network of OEMs and other players in the supply chain, as well as the participation of committed employees. We go forward in exchange and bring together material resources (e.g. tools, CNC machines), human resources and know-how in the market.

Read more about this (in German) in the field report ‘Thinking ahead: plastic parts for mechanical engineering in Africa’.

We aim to enable sustainable production of semi-finished products and spare parts in East Africa by connecting education with industry and building local skills and value chains.
