PBT materials

PBT plastic - Polybutyleneterephthalate

The plastic PBT is a semi crystalline thermoplastic belonging to the family of polyester polymers. PBT plastic is characterised by high strength, rigidity and dimensional stability when exposed to heat, as well as very high dimensional stability and a low tendency to creep. PBT material is also particularly suitable for food processing applications as it offers excellent resistance to chlorinated and corrosive cleaning solutions. Like all polyesters, PBT polymers have excellent friction and wear properties.  However, compared to PET polyester, PBT plastic material offers better impact resistance - especially at low temperatures. Because of this property, PBT is much easier to modify with fibres than PET and is therefore usually available as a fibre-reinforced product.

Manufactured PBT products and PBT finished parts

As a PBT manufacturer, we offer PBT in the form of PBT compounds, stock shapes and, on customer request, also as PBT tubes. PBT is well suited for the production of a variety of components. As such, we offer an array of further processing techniques. Depending on the application, PBT material can be machined or extruded into PBT profiles at Ensinger.

PBT rods and Plates - manufactured PBT semi-finished products

PBT shape materials

Ensinger is a PBT supplier of shapes and produces the material under the brand name TECADUR PBT. We suppliy PBT semi-finished products in the following forms:

  • PBT rods
  • PBT sheets / plates
  • PBT tubes (only customised)

PBT PROPERTIES AND SPECIFICATIONS

PBT plastic offers:

  • Very low moisture absorption
  • High dimensional stability
  • Low creep tendency
  • Very good friction and wear resistance
  • Good impact strength
  • A very low coefficient of thermal expansion and good electrical properties (this makes PBT also interesting for electrotechnical applications)
  • Good adhesion and weldability
