PE plastic - Polyethylene

Polyethylene is a lightweight and versatile synthetic plastic made by polymerising ethylene. It belongs to the important family of polyolefins and is probably the most widely used plastic in the world. PE polymers are semi crystalline thermoplastics characterised by high toughness and excellent chemical resistance. However, unlike other plastics, polyethylene plastic has lower mechanical strength and temperature resistance.
The molecular weight of the individual polyethylene types can vary greatly, which in turn directly affects the relative physical properties of the individual types. The most commonly used PE plastic types are high density polyethylene (HDPE) and high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW).  There are also several low-density types (LDPE).

Manufactured PE products and finished parts

Ensinger is a polyethylene manufacturer and offers metal and X-ray detectable PE pellets, metal detectable extruded polyethylene rods and pressure formed modifications in the form of PE rods and PE plastic sheets. For users interested in machining polyethylene, Ensinger also offers the processing of polyethylene into finished parts, with PE machining taking place in-house. In addition, we also offer PE profiles. And when it comes to regulatory requirements, Ensinger is an expert in providing the right certifications, no matter what your PE specifications need to meet.

PE shape materials

As part of our broad basket approach to the supply of thermoplastics, Ensinger offers a widevariety of polyethylene extrusion stock shapes for machining. PE plastic modifications are offered by Ensinger under the brand name TECAFINE PE. Ensinger is a Polyethylene supplier of stock shapes such as:

  • PE rods
  • PE plates
  • PE tubes (customised)

The Ensinger PE family contains the following modifications:

  • TECAFINE PE 300 - PE HD
  • TECAFINE PE 500 - PE HMW
  • TECAFINE PE 1000 - PE UHMW

Polyethylene PROPERTIES AND SPECIFICATIONS

PE plastics offer:

  • Lower density compared to other materials
  • High impact strength, even at low temperatures
  • Good wear resistance, especially the abrasive wear of polyethylene increases as the molecular weight of PE increases.
  • Minimal moisture absorption makes polyethylene a preferred material for many applications requiring a dielectric
  • Excellent chemical resistance due to its non-polar nature
  • High corrosion resistance and excellent resistance to sulphurous compounds
  • Non stick
  • Very good electrical insulation due to its low dielectric constant, stable dielectric constant at all frequencies and has a very high insulation resistance
  • High vibrational damping
  • Pipes for gas or drinking water

Polyethylene Application examples

  • Guiding pulley
  • Chain guidance
  • Liners for storage units, silos and conveyor channels
  • Suck and filter discs
