PET material is a polyester with a comparatively high density. PET polymer is available as an amorphous or semi crystalline thermoplastic. The amorphous PET polymer offers high transparency, but weaker mechanical properties such as tensile strength and also significantly lower sliding properties. This type of PET, which is mainly used in bottles and packaging, is not produced by Ensinger.
The typical properties of the semi crystalline terephthalate that Ensinger does produce are hardness, rigidity and strength. PET plastic also offers excellent sliding behaviour and less sliding wear (compared to POM in moist or dry environments). This material has been referred to PET-P plastic for a long time, but this now obsolete name for PET material is no longer common.
Due to its good creep resistance as well as its low moisture absorption and excellent dimensional stability, PET plastic is ideal for use in complex parts with the highest demands on dimensional accuracy and surface quality. PET is also food safe. Due to its thermal properties, PET material offers good temperature stability and dimensional stability. It also has good tensile strength and chemical resistance.
Ensinger is an experienced supplier of polyethylene terephthalate and offers the plastic in various forms. Ensinger supplies stock shapes in the form of PET plastic plates and PET rods. We also processes PET as customised profiles and other components. Manufacturing processes such as PET 3D printing, PET injection molding and machining are performed within Ensinger's different business units.
The Ensinger trade name for PET modifications is TECAPET or TECADUR PET. Ensinger supplies PET shapes in form of:
