TECATRON natural
PPS unfilled
Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) - TECATRON - is a semi crystalline, high temperature thermoplastic. Due to its chemical structure, PPS is a very resistant polymer with high mechanical strength and stiffness, even at temperatures above 200 °C.
Unfilled PPS is very chemically stable. At temperatures below 200 °C, there is no solvent known that can dissolve PPS material. However, in its natural colour, it does show sensitivity to UV radiation.
In addition to low water absorption, PPS plastic material shows good dimensional stability, low creep and excellent electrical properties, making it well suited for parts with the tightest tolerances.
By means of multiple optimisation cycles during the PPS extrusion, it was possible to significantly improve the typical PPS material properties and to achieve three decisive advantages of TECATRON natural compared to other commercially available PPS plastic.
One is the reduction of the material's residual stress, which ensures excellent dimensional stability, high flatness and the reduction of deflection and warpage of TECATRON natural. This means that Ensinger's PPS plastic can be used to accelerate the production of parts, as the low residual stress of the sheets allows higher speeds and feeds during machining, leading to fewer issues with defects or tolerance on the way to the final part.
Furthermore, TECATRON natural is particularly suitable for parts with the highest demands for optical purity of the surface. By means of special production conditions, the risk of impurities and optical defects like black specks and flow marks are significantly reduced. This leads to a increase in the process yield of the manufactured parts.
In addition, the possibility of burns on the extruded surface, which is common for PPS, has been markedly reduced, thus vastly improving the surface quality. Consequently, no additional scrap has to be considered when selecting dimensions of PPS sheet, rod and tube - you merely choose what you need.
