Electrically active, conductive and ESD plastics

Unmodified plastics are generally electrically insulating. However, thermoplastics such as PEEK and Acetal can be modified to provide a range of electrically conductive, anti static or static dissipative properties. When electrical property requirements exist, the key issue is generally whether an electrically dissipating, a conductive plastic or an electrically insulating material is required. Depending on the required degree of conductivity, Ensinger offers a wide range of high performance plastics with specific electrical properties, whether they be anti static, static dissipative, ESD protective or conductive.
Plastics with electrical properties are categorized by their specific surface resistance, which is the resistance that the plastic exerts against the flow of electricity at the surface. This is expressed by the ratio of applied voltage in volts (V) and the current created in amperes (A) using Ohm's law.

Range of electrically active plastics

The wide range of different electrical applications is reflected in the diverse requirements imposed on the plastics used. To ensure the reliable handling of highly sensitive electronic components, statically dissipating materials with a better control of the decay time are very important to assure the operational capability of the electronical parts. This allows potential damage or destruction of the components to be significantly reduced during production. Ensinger has expanded this portfolio with new ESD materials and conductive plastics to meet the increasing demands from the market. Compared to other industry standards these semi-finished products are extruded in order to have bigger dimensions available for a higher efficiency in the machining process for the individual applications.

Anti static and static dissipative plastics

Anti static plastics are used to avoid static charges in order to protect from electrostatic discharge (ESD). To ensure reliable handling of highly sensitive components, static dissipative plastics may also be used, which significantly reduces the damage to or destruction of components during production. Electrically active materials are also used in the mechanical engineering industry, in conveyor technology and in the field of explosion protection. In these applications, the ability to selectively dissipate electrical charge is an important factor in the prevention of explosive discharges.

Anti static and static dissipative plastics offer many advantages over other materials as they are lighter in weight, have excellent weathering resistance, and provide good protection against thermomechanical stress.

TECAFORM AH SD natural

Ensinger manufactures natural acetal (POM-C) material modified by the addition of a special antistatic agent. The product is sold under the tradename TECAFORM AH SD natural.
We are manufacturer and supplier of following ESD plastics in shape of rod and plate:

Electrically conductive plastics

Plastics with specific electrical properties offer a range of benefits over other materials, as electrically conductive plastics have good resistance to weathering, provide protection against thermomechanical stress, and are only minimally susceptible to corrosion.

The electrical conductivity of Ensinger's high performance plastics is achieved by selective addition of electrically active substances. These include, but may not be limited to, special conductive carbon black, carbon fibers, carbon nano tubes, or inherently conductive materials.

Ensinger's range of high performance thermoplastics with electrical properties can offer extensive material diversity and consequently a broad range of possible applications in the electronic, automotive, renewable energies, and mechanical engineering industries.
