PSU - Polysulfone

TECASON S Ensinger Plastics

Polyarylsulfones (PSU) belong to the group of polysulfones and are thermoplastic, transparent plastics. Due to their amorphous molecular structure, polysulfones are translucent and have a light brown tint. Polysulfone (PSU) is a high temperature plastic with high mechanical strength and rigidity. Apart from the high continuous use temperature, the outstanding characteristics of the material include good creep strength that is remarkably high over a wide range of temperatures, excellent dimensional stability, very good resistance to hydrolysis and good chemical compatibility.

PSU material properties and specifications

Material properties of PSU plastics are:

  • High operating temperature (160°C)
  • Very good resistance to hydrolysis (suitable for repetitive steam sterilisation)
  • High toughness, even at low temperatures
  • High dimensional stability
  • Good electrical insulation
  • High mechanical strength
  • High rigidity
  • High creep resistance over a wide range of temperatures
  • Good radiation resistance

Manufactured PSU Materials

Ensinger is manufacturer and supplier of polysulfones and extrudes them in sheets and rods. The Ensinger trade name for PSU is TECASON S:

  • TECASON S - PSU material unmodified

TECASON S natural

TECASON S is a transparent PSU engineering plastic known for ability to operate in an autoclave environment while maintaining its excellent mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures.

Typical PSU applications

Electronic industry: Connectors, coil bodies, high frequency insulators, lamp sockets, park protection caps and antenna sockets

Mechanical engineering: Oil level indicators

Food industry: Microwave dishes

Chemical industry: Valve spools, flanges, tubes, pump cases and inspection windows
