The Town of Rottenburg has recognized Wilfried Ensinger for his outstanding social commitment. At the town's annual reception, the founder and long-standing Managing Director of Ensinger GmbH was awarded the town’s highest accolade, its gold medal, by the Mayor Stephan Neher.
“Wilfried Ensinger has made an outstanding contribution both culturally and socially over many years. The Wilfried Ensinger Foundation, which was formed back in 1997, provides support for both the Domsing School and the College of Higher Education in Church Music in Rottenburg, and Mr and Mrs Ensinger have also privately funded a number of key projects in the town,” said the Mayor. Examples quoted by Mayor Neher included support for the Rottenburg Town Band, financial aid for the TVR Volleyball Bundesliga team, and the construction of a sports arena.
Wilfried Ensinger was overwhelmed both by the accolade and the standing ovation. He expressed his delight, gratitude and pride in receiving the medal. He emphasized that although his contribution had nothing to do with gaining public recognition, “if on this occasion it has inspired others to consider how they can serve the public good, then it would have served an important purpose.”
The Town of Rottenburg has conferred gold, silver and bronze medals as an expression of its appreciation and recognition of outstanding civic service and achievements for the past 37 years. Wilfried Ensinger is the seventh resident to have received a gold medal.
Born in 1936 in Esslingen, Wilfried Ensinger completed his training as toolmaker and successfully graduated as a master craftsman. He then worked as operations and factory manager in various companies in the mechanical engineering, precision mechanics and plastics processing industry. He studied partially while in full time employment, graduating with a Degree in Industrial Engineering and an Engineering Diploma.
In 1966, Wilfried Ensinger founded the plastics processing company Ensinger oHG in Ehningen. In 1997, he handed over the reins of management to the second generation.
Following on from his transition to the company’s Advisory Board, he stepped up his civic and social involvement and formed the Wilfried Ensinger Foundation, which supports and promotes social, cultural and scientific institutions.
As the former President and currently the Honorary President of the Böblingen Regional Chamber of Commerce, he provided important impetus for reform of the governing bodies and strengthening vocational training.
Wilfried Ensinger was made an Honorary Senator by Stuttgart University in 2004. One year later, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
