PMP Plastic - Polymethylpentene

PMP plastic is a semi crystalline thermoplastic often referred to as TPX®. Components made from PMP material offer higher temperature resistance compared to standard polyolefins, as well as good chemical resistance and good electrical insulation properties. In addition, PMP materials exhibit low dielectric characteristics, superb clarity, transparency, gas permeability, thermal and chemical resistance and superior release quality. Polymethylpentene plastic is easy to machine and polish. It also has one of the lowest specific densities among available engineering materials, making it ideal for lightweight structural parts.

Manufactured PMP products and PMP finished parts

Polymethylpentene plastic is sold by Ensinger in the form of standard rods and sheets as well as industrial profiles in the form of tubes and  other profiles.

PMP semi-finished products can also be processed by Ensinger into customer specific finished parts by machining.

PMP rods and Plates - manufacturer of PMP semi-finished products

Polymethylpentene plastics modifications are manufactured by Ensinger under the brand name TECAFINE PMP.

Ensinger is a supplier of PMP shapes in the form of:

  • Polymethylpentene sheets
  • Polymethylpentene rods
  • Customised PMP tubes

PMP Marterial PROPERTIES AND SPECIFICATIONS

PMP plastics offer:

  • Low density
  • Excellent electrical properties
  • Low water absorption (high tlerance accuracy)
  • High creep resistance (resistant to deformation under its own weight)
  • High toughness
  • Translucence (because of the material's low haze values and refractive index, PMP becomes a good alternative to glass or acrylic)
  • Chemical resistance to bases, alkalis and esters

PMP APPLICATIONS

  • Lab equipment components
  • Medical equipment parts
  • Microwave components
  • Electrical and electronic components
  • Lightweight structural components
